Hi Alex

Ideally, a block of flat, condo, apartment, office or any high rise complex should have the facing direction based on the whole facade of the building. To determine the actual facing direction, one will need to ascertain the water spot, if any, of the area (Macro) and lobby entrance (Micro) of the building. Once both factors has been considered, then you may look at your main door or window whether it follows the the same facing direction.

In year 2003, we bought a 2nd hand flat and engaged a Feng Shui master before doing the renovation. Our unit is described as: your residence sits in the south, at the wu bearing and faces north at the zi bearing. It should have water flowing inwards. When using the flying star calculator, which is my facing? South or North? My house should be a period 7 house, how do I make it to period 8? Thanks for helping.

Hi PetMC12

You need to measure again with a reliable compass as North2 – South2 bearing for a residence is not auspicious according to Feng Shui which equates it with Death & Emptiness Line. The directional Qi is too strong. Changing to Period 8 is not necessarily auspicious for you as other factors have to be considered. Anyway, for a flat, it is not possible to make a period change for individual units unless the whole building is also subjected to the change.

Changing the whole roof

Hi everyone

Just wanted to know what is the best dates to change the whole roof over the next few months. Actually there is some problem with the colour coating of the roof and the manufacturer agreed to change it. My house is facing NW1. It would be great if it will lead to the change of the house chi to that of period 8.

Any advice and information are greatly appreciated.

Hi Yong

The selection of a good date for home improvement or for that matter, any important activity based on the Chinese almanac or Dong Shu would require information of the residents’ date of birth besides the orientation of the house. With the residents date of birth, it makes the date selection more personalized. Otherwise, you can refer to the Dong Shu for a generic date which offers less than optimal result.

Changing of the roof alone is not enough to change the period of the house. You will need to change the main entrance and the floor tiles in order to comply with the trinity of heaven, earth and man. However, changing to period 8 does not assured you of getting an auspicious house chart. It all depends on the house facing, land forms and residents’ Ba Zi.Teng

Beneficial color for south facing house

Posted in Feng Shui by Administrator on the June 2nd, 2008

I would like to consider suggestions for repainting my house. It is facing south (155 degrees), built in 1996 and is located on rural wooded property. I was not a student of Feng Shui when it was first built, so the present color is a soft blue/grey. Would there be better color? If anyone needs more infomation before making suggestions, I will check the forum often and reply quickly. Thank you,

Deb F

Your facing is SE3 (155 degrees) which is the Si direction. Your period of house is 7. The 5 Yellow star is at the facing and if your front door is located here, it is inauspicious. If you must paint your house, the better color would be silver or white color. You should not make any renovation to this area such as digging, knocking or nailing the wall or ground.

Hi

Yours is a Li house and Yan Nian is at your front door. However, you are also offending the Tai Sui this year. Therefore, water is not a good idea at North2. It further weakens the man of the house.

I will not put any water feature at the NE if I were you. Besides, water fountain is not an ideal water feature which can bring disastrous result if one is not careful.

Questions on Flying Stars Chart

Hi all,
I am a newbie here and have the following questions on flying star chart:

1. Under the topic ‘Understanding Flying Star Chart’, besides the large no., why are there 2 small numbers (one on the top left corner and the other on the top right corner) in each grid of the picture? Any difference between the position whether it’s on top left or top right since they are within the same grid?

2. Say if I want to buy a unit on the high floor, when looking at the flying star chart of the condominium, shall I take the main entrance of the condo or the facing of my unit (main view of the unit, say, a park) as the main facing? The 2 facing are just the opposite and when I look at their flying star chart, the difference is only the changing of the 2 nos on the corner, say, when face NE, the nos are 1 (on the top left) and 3 (on the top right) and when taking the facing as SW, the nos a are 3(on the top left) and 1 (on the right).

I am very puzzled, please help!

Thank you!

Hi

The number on the left is the sitting star and the one on the right is the facing star. Sitting stars govern people and relationship whereas facing stars influence wealth and career. The star in the middle of each grid is the base star for the period.

For condo, finding the facing direction of the unit can be quite tricky. The rule of thumb is to take the facing direction of the whole condo which should face the most Yang side of the property such as main road, main view/scenery, lobby entrance etc. The facing direction of each unit will then follow the facing direction of the whole condo. The flying star chart for the whole condo will then be the same for every unit.

HiFrom your house plan, it is difficult to make out where is the front entrance. The facing of a house is based on its front facade. You should take the facing direction of the front facade which is where the front door is usually located. However, please note that the front door facing direction may not be the same as the front facade facing direction of a house. You should use a reliable compass instead of google earth reading. A feng shui compass is even better as it gives you the formulas to work with in determining the favorable and unfavorable sectors. Without these information, it is difficult to advise what cures or remedies to take. The residents birth data will determine which sectors are suitable for whom.

By the way, your house should belong to period 7.

What’s your opinion?

I’m just curious to see what people’s personal opinion is when evaluating stars in a sector. Do you pay more attention to the annual and monthly visiting stars or the visiting period water and mountain stars? Which one’s seem to cause more problems? What do you think?

The water and mountain stars for the period governs the luck of the sector for the entire period. However, the importance of these stars as compared to the visiting stars is a question of currency or proximity. The visiting stars has more immediate impact whereas the period stars take time to exert its influence on the sector concerned. However, both set of stars interact with one another to give auspicious or inauspicious outcomes. The period stars act like a host or mediator and it can influence the positive or negative effects of the visiting stars. In Xuan Kong, you can predict the events that will take place by evaluating the visiting stars, the person life kua and the sector concerned and how they will affect the well being of a person residing therein in terms of health, wealth, relationship etc.

Hi

In 2008, there are 3 types of afflictions affecting the south sectors or direction. They are:-
3 Killings
5 Yellow
Year Breaker

As long as you do not break the floor, break the wall or other knocking activities such as renovation, it should be OK. Just keep the place quite and still. Of course, you need to ascertain that there are no negative forms outside and inside the house which can activate these negative stars. The best is to stay away from this sector if you can.

You can renovate the new house before moving in and try choosing an auspicious date and time for moving in.Teng

HiIn classical Feng Shui text, nothing was mentioned on using remedies such as the trinkets and ornaments you placed in your room. They are nothing but clutter. Have you enjoyed any positive effects to-date?

If you are looking for wealth, health, relationship or career, then you need to tap into the right sector or room. You will need to know the facing or sitting direction of your house in order to map out its Chi map as far as interior feng shui is concerned. However, the forms outside the house will need to be conducive for Chi to flow in and to support the Chi pattern inside the house. Your BaZi chart also need to be looked into as we need to consider the power of trinity – heaven, earth and man.

Feng Shui is only one of the factors when it comes to prosperity and auspiciousness. You need to consider heaven’s luck and proactive human action.Teng
